The Dominion Astrophysical Observatory started operating on May 1918. It has three Plaskett telescopes, named after John Stanley Plaskett, the Observatory founder. This Observatory has been an important factor in the scientific reputation Canada has on a global scale.
The Dominion Astrophysical Observatory celebrated 90 years of presence at the top of the Little Saanich Mountain on May 10, 2008. The 1.8-meter mirror of the telescope was shipped from Europe few days before the start of the First World War.
